CLEP testing is a program put together so that students could receive college credit for previous knowledge without needing to take a course. The majority of all accredited colleges have some kind of CLEP study credit. It gives a student an opportunity to get class credits quicker instead of spending months in a boring college course. The CLEP exams are available to any student or potential student confident that they know the material and looking to bypass the actual course.
As a student, you have a great opportunity to skip many of your core classes because of CLEP testing. I see so many students entering into college only to discover that their first year courses are similar to everything they've learned over their last few years of high school. By passing a CLEP exam on a given subject, you are credited as if you had successfully completed the entire course.

You have so many CLEP study guides to choose from. There is basically one available for every area of CLEP study. Although many of these CLEP test study guides help in preparing for the test material, their main dram is the practice tests available in all of them.
While the tests are difficult, they are passable with the right study guide for CLEP found in print or online. However, I recommended you try to get some type of CLEP test study guide to work on your knowledge before signing up for the real thing. If you can easily pass these practice tests, you shouldn't have any difficulty managing the real one.
Some students like to use pencil and paper tests of the traditional book CLEP study guides, however more and more are looking online for study guides since the material is available to them immediately. Another thing to remember is that unless you request it beforehand, your CLEP exam will be done on a computer which is another reason why online guides are growing in popularity. Look into obtaining the official CLEP Guide in book form since it's the only guide endorsed by the College Board.
My advice is to think of the CLEP as an excellent alternative instead sitting in an actual class. I've been in so many classes with boring professors who just stand and lecture. I would much rather choose taking one testing and getting it out of the way.
