The Big Ten is by far the oldest Division 1 college athletic conference. It is a prestigious academic and athletic conference that is one of the hardest to get into in the entire United States. The Big Ten Conference consists of schools located in the Midwest. It is called the Big Ten, but there are actually 11 schools now in the conference since Penn State joined in 1990.

If you are looking for a premier college to attend that ranks high on the academic and athletic scale, you are definitely looking in the right place by choosing the Big 10 Conference.

What is the best Big Ten school to attend? The decision can be very challenging for any prospective college student . There is a lot that goes into making a decision to attend one of these prestigious schools, such as students overall quality of life, alumnae status, and academic experience. Here is a listing of some of the best Big 10 schools:

1. MSU

Michigan State has over 150 undergraduate majors and is one of the most prestigious schools in the Big 10. It is one of the best schools to attend and your chances of landing a high paying job will definitely increase if you graduate from this school.

2. PSU

Penn State University joined the Big 10 in 1990. It has been excelling in athletics and academics for over a century. It also enrolls more than 42,000 students on its main campus and more than 80,000 students a year university-wide. You can't go wrong attending Penn State University.

3. Northwestern

Northwestern University is a prestigious school right outside of Chicago. It is extremely hard to get into NU but the benefits are phenomenal. When students attend Northwestern they can experience college life and the Chicago nightlife since this college is only located 25 minutes from downtown.

4. OSU

Ohio State University has great academics, and its athletic program has really excelled in the most recent years. The Buckeyes have been the Number 1 team in college football numerous times. OSU is definitely one of the best schools in the country and going there should help you land a great job once you graduate!

5. University of Michigan

The University of Michigan is without a doubt one of the top schools in the country. It is well known for both its academic and athletic excellence. Because of its high admission standards, a degree from the U of M is widely respected. In addition, the Michigan football program has more all-time wins than any other university in the country. This prestigious school is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The rest of the Big 10 schools are also top-notch in academics and athletics, so they are all worth taking a look at. Attending one of these well respected schools will definitely separate you out from your competition and may help you land a better-paying job.
